Thank you, this is great, Herb! I now know about ethnomicrobiology, and I love the intersection of science and anthropology with food production.

I checked out Gary Nabhan since he lives in Arizona. He and his wife maintain a five acre farm in Patagonia and it is open for visitors. Heirloom fruit orchard, grains that are adapted to the desert, looks like really cool stuff.

Thank you!

Thank you. As a matter of fact, I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Gary several years ago, when I was leading an initiative regarding the local food movement and food security. I'd gathered a lot of leaders, including Gary, on a task force to discuss the issues and opportunities for collaboration. He's quite a visionary and prolific. He's also been a pioneer in the preservation of heirloom seeds. There's actually a seed bank in Tucson and a vault for seeds on the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard. I just think this stuff is fascinating.
